Dr. Nigel Hicks is a Chief Scientist at that Council for Geoscience’s KwaZulu-Natal Regional Office, where he has been based since 2009. Dr Hicks is a sedimentologist, having obtained a Master’s Degree in Archaean Sedimentology from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) in 2009, and a Doctorate from UKZN focussing on the CO2 storage potential of the offshore Durban Basin on South Africa’s east coast.
Nigel currently holds the position of CCS Technologies Lead at the Council for Geoscience with nine years’ experience in geological storage of CCS.
Nigel has authored and co-authored over fifteen articles in peer-reviewed journals on various sedimentological topics. His current interests include sedimentology, sequence stratigraphy, carbon capture and storage, Archaean geodynamics and early life.
