Gavin Selfe

Gavin Selfe has 30 years experience in the minerals exploration industry. He graduated from Wits in 1987 with a dual major BSc in geology and geophysics, and a BSc Honours in geology. He subsequently worked as a geophysicist for De Beers and Anglo American for the following 15 years, based in the field and head office, as well as doing a 5-year stint in West Africa based in Ghana and Togo. In January 2004 Gavin started his own consultancy (GRS Consulting) and for the past 15 years has consulted to many of the major and junior mineral exploration companies in Africa. His experience includes diamonds, gold, nickel, copper, platinum, iron ore and zinc exploration using the entire array of airborne and ground geophysical techniques, as well as geophysical processing and modelling software, and GIS. In 2016 he started a company called GeoFocus with Bjorn Havemann, which undertakes ground geophysical surveys for the minerals exploration and engineering geology industries, as well as general consulting. He has given papers at numerous conferences, and is an ex-president of the SA Geophysical Association (SAGA)
