G.R.J. Cooper is a Professor of Geophysics at Wits University, Johannesburg. His areas of research include potential fields, image and signal processing, fractals and chaos. He is currently an Associate Editor for the S.E.G. (Geophysics), the E.A.G.E. (Geophysical Prospecting), the A.S.E.G. (Exploration Geophysics), the I.A.M.G. (Computers & Geosciences), and the A.J.G. (Arabian Journal of Geoscience), and constantly reviews papers for all the major journals. He has published more than 100 papers in international journals, and also holds five patents. Algorithms that he has developed have been implemented by various commercial geophysical companies. He was the President of the S.A. Geophysical Association from 1997-98, editor of its newsletter for more than a decade, and built its first website.
