M.C.J. DE WIT CV SUMMARY
Michiel de Wit obtained a BA (Hons) degree from Trinity College, Dublin in Geology in 1975 and MSc degrees in geophysics and sedimentology from the Universities of Pretoria (1981) and Reading (1983) respectively. He completed a PhD in geology from the University of Cape Town in 1993. He started his career with the Geological Survey of SA in 1976 where he spent two years in geophysical applications over alluvial diamond deposits. The following 29 years he was employed by De Beers in diamond exploration and research, became General Manager-Africa Exploration responsible for the discovery and evaluation of kimberlites in African before moving to the DRC in 2004 for De Beers as General Manager-DRC. Besides formulating and managing exploration programs other responsibilities included strategies, security of tenure, budgets, manpower, joint ventures, SHE. In 2007 he joined Canadian junior explorer Delrand Resources (Pty) Ltd (formerly BRC-DiamondCore (Pty) Ltd) as President and CEO continuing with exploration and evaluation of diamond deposits in the DRC and South Africa. From 2010 to 2019 he worked for Tsodilo Resources Ltd as President and COO where he became involved with diamond and base-metal exploration in Botswana. In 2007 he was appointed as Honorary Professor at the Geology Department of the University of Pretoria until 2017.
