The session is a 1 Day Course
Wits Seismic Research Centre from Wits University and its partners from around the world will present a full day workshop at SAGA 2024 on the application of novel geophysical techniques for near-surface characterisation and deep targeting. Invited speakers will present research through case studies on the latest development of cost-effective, environmentally-friendly tools and methods for geophysical exploration in highly challenging brownfield and greenfield areas to address ever-increasing community and environmental issues, as well as reduce the return time on investments. In this workshop, researchers will also present innovative prototypes that have been developed under the EU-funded international consortium projects for surface, borehole and in-mine geophysical exploration. Students and professionals in mining, energy and minerals industry, engineers, geologists, geophysicists, as well as service providers are invited to participate to witness the recent developments within these growing fields. Topics to be covered will include:
- Active and passive seismics for mineral exploration
- Seismic methods for CCUS characterisation and energy resource exploration
- Surface and in-mine seismics for deep mineral exploration
- Advances in DAS technology – VSP and surface DAS applications
- UAV-Mag/EM platform techniques for mineral exploration and mining applications
- AI for geophysical data interpretation
