Dr. Ricky Murray
Founder of Groundwater Africa
BIOGRAPHY
Dr Ricky Murray has been involved in groundwater exploration and resource assessments since 1984. He completed his MSc at Rhodes University where he focussed on quantifying borehole and aquifer yields, and obtained his PhD from the University of the Free State after assessing the feasibility of artificially recharging the Windhoek Aquifer. He started his groundwater career working for consulting hydrogeologists (up to 1992), then moved to the NGO sector and worked on rural water supplies in the former “homelands” (up to 1997), then joined the CSIR where he focussed on artificial recharge (or Managed Aquifer Recharge) projects. In 2004 he founded Groundwater Africa, a consulting firm, where he been ever since. His focus remains in groundwater exploration and resource assessments, and in managed aquifer recharge.
