ITINERARY
Day 1: Cape Town to Oudtshoorn – Through the Heart of Route 62
Depart Cape Town in the morning and travel along the iconic Route 62, one of South Africa’s most scenic drives, dotted with quaint farming towns, rugged mountain landscapes, and vast stretches of open countryside. Stop enroute at the retro-inspired Diesel & Crème Diner in Barrydale – a favourite for its nostalgic décor and indulgent milkshakes (refreshments/lunch for own account).
Arrive in Oudtshoorn, the “Ostrich Capital of the World,” nestled in the semi-arid Klein Karoo. In the late afternoon, explore the awe-inspiring Cango Caves, a natural wonder of ancient limestone formations and underground chambers carved by time.
End the day with a hearty braai dinner at Kobus Se Gat Veldt Restaurant, where warm Karoo hospitality and traditional South African flavours create an unforgettable dining experience under the open sky.
Overnight at Surval Boutique Hotel & Olive Estate or similar
Day 2: Oudtshoorn to Knysna – From the Karoo to the Coast
For the early risers, an optional Meerkat Safari offers the rare opportunity to witness these playful creatures emerge from their burrows at sunrise – a heartwarming start to the day.
After breakfast, visit the Safari Ostrich Farm for a guided tractor tour, learning about the world’s largest bird and its fascinating role in local culture and commerce.
Continue your journey over the Outeniqua Pass to the lush landscapes of the Garden Route and the lagoon-side town of Knysna. In the afternoon, embark on the Featherbed Eco Experience, a guided nature excursion to the Western Head that includes a scenic ferry crossing, spectacular viewpoints, and a walk through pristine coastal forest (lunch excluded).
The evening is yours to unwind and explore Knysna’s waterfront, brimming with boutique shops, galleries, and inviting restaurants overlooking the lagoon.
Overnight in Knysna Log Inn Graywood Wing or similar
Day 3: Knysna to Cape Town – Wildlife & Coastal Charm
After breakfast, depart Knysna and travel westward along the coast, pausing for a scenic photo and refreshment (for own account) stop in Mossel Bay, the historical gateway of the first European explorers.
Continue to Garden Route Game Lodge, where an 11h00 guided safari offers the chance to spot Africa’s Big Five and other fascinating wildlife in a beautiful malaria-free reserve. Afterwards, enjoy a delicious lunch at the lodge before continuing your return journey to Cape Town.
Arrive in the evening in Cape Town, your heart full of memories and your camera filled with spectacular landscapes – the Garden Route experience that captures South Africa’s soul.
