BIOGRAPHY

Fatheela Brovko is the Chief Research Operations Officer (CROO) at the Mine Health and Safety Council (MHSC), having joined in August 2022. Her role entails the leadership of occupational health and safety research and technical committees at MHSC, encompassing technology and knowledge transfer. Having worked in the mining industry for 17 years, she brings a wealth of experience in mineral exploration and extraction. As a former Senior Geophysicist at Anglo American, she successfully contributed towards enhancing orebody delineation, mine expansion, risk mitigation, and in-mine safety through various geophysical projects. Transitioning to Mining Research Development and Innovation (RDI) at the CSIR, she focused on research towards modernising the industry for improved safety, reduced costs, and enhanced productivity. Fatheela holds postgraduate qualifications in Geophysics, Industrial Mathematics, and Mineral Economics, and undergraduate qualifications in Computational and Applied Mathematics from the University of Leeds and the University of Witwatersrand. She is dedicated to collaborating with stakeholders to prioritise mine workers’ health and safety in the South African mining industry, with the belief that “Zero Harm is possible.”
