BIOGRAPHY

John McGaughey is founder and President of Mira Geoscience, a geoscience software and services company with offices in Canada and Australia. John holds a Ph.D. in Geological Engineering from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. Prior to founding Mira Geoscience in 1999, he spent 10 years at the Noranda Technology Centre in Montreal as a Senior Scientist in their rock mechanics and exploration groups. His focus is multidisciplinary integration for better decisions across geoscience disciplines, technologies, and business applications. He has primarily dedicated himself to developing technologies and methods in 2D, 3D, and 4D data management, modelling, and interpretation for mineral exploration and geotechnical hazard assessment. John has been a champion of breaking down the interoperability barriers that needlessly get in the way of multi-disciplinary integration―a hard enough problem as it is―for which he was presented with the 2023 AME Innovation Award at the Roundup mineral exploration conference in Vancouver earlier this year.
