LOOKING BEHIND THE BOREHOLE WALL – THE VALUE IN A COMBINED INTERPRETATION OF BOREHOLE RADAR AND BOREHOLE IMAGING DATA.
Timo Korth
Timo worked more than 27 years as a geophysicist and has been exposed to ground penetrating radar in his early days. During his 20+ years career at Advanced Logic Technology (ALT) he worked daily with ATV and OTV data, contributing to the development of the borehole data interpretation software WellCAD and trained professionals worldwide in borehole data interpretation in more than 100 workshops. In 2022 he founded ALTUM Geoscience focusing on borehole geophysical data interpretation and related tasks.

About this event
Borehole radar technology is available for many years but has never reached the same acceptance level as for example borehole imaging with ATV or OTV tools. Mostly, because it has been seen and treated as a separate measurement.
This workshop will demonstrate how the value of both borehole image and borehole radar data will increase significantly when interpreted in combination.
What I will learn
- All you need to know about Helix Geotech’s borehole radar (BHR) technology and the acquisition of data.
- How do optical (OTV) and acoustic borehole televiewer (ATV) tools work and what data is acquired.
- Essential data processing steps for BHR and ATV/OTV data.
- Geological structures in borehole and global reference systems.
- Structure interpretation from BHR and ATV/OTV images and the presentation of data.
- How to conduct a combined interpretation of BHR and ATV/OTV data.
- The added value of a combined interpretation.
What should I bring
Participants should bring a laptop. A temporary license for WellCAD software will be provided to work on different data samples.
